Written on my studio wall are the words “Life only demands from you the strength you possess. Only one feat is possible - not to have run away”. These words, spoken by Dag Hammarskjol, winner of the 1961 Peace Prize, helped me through the numbing intensity of my mother’s illness.
I am lending these two images Orchard Spring #1 and Orchard Spring #2 to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Memory Bank project in honour of my mother, a beautiful, courageous and vivacious woman, who in June of 2003 was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She gently faded away. I miss her.
