For my artwork I chose to use coloured pencils, because I had the idea for my picture and knew the pencils would allow me to do fine detail. I chose to draw a picture showing the eight steps to Acceptance. Living with Alzheimer’s disease, I had to take eight steps before I could get to the place of acceptance. Acceptance gives you freedom of choice. You walk out in the sunshine. In other words you stop being a victim. I hope other people learn from my picture that living with Alzheimer’s disease is a journey and there are positives along this journey. With the art project I was able to share with others what I believe is the best way to live with this disease. By sharing and supporting others who have dementia, we learn that we are not alone.
