For my artwork I chose acrylic paint on canvas, because I knew I could get bright and bold colours with the paint and paint is more forgiving with fine motor difficulties. I chose to paint a large single object, as I like the bold vividness of it. Vivid colours give me life and energy. The boldness of an individual flower is like a person with dementia. Each flower and person is different and each has a uniqueness and beautiful qualities. To me my painting means simplicity. In looking at my picture I hope people will get a feeling or learn that people with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia can accomplish something that they thought they couldn’t. With the art project, I got the confidence that I could do something I hadn’t done for many years. It made me realize that I’d like to continue and do more of it in the future.
