For my artwork I chose acrylic paint on canvas. I tried the other mediums, but I liked how Liina, our art therapist, was able to get an effect with paint so I wanted to try that. I chose to paint a tree because, as a person with Alzheimer’s disease, I need to be grounded, doing one thing at a time. I see tree trunks as being strong. A large tree with long roots is what I need. To me my painting demonstrates grounding and calmness. I put the water in the painting as I find it calming. In looking at my picture, I hope each person will discover his or her own learning or interest. I was initially unsure about the art project, but once I realized that I could do it and get the effect I wanted, I enjoyed it. I loved the process and am now painting at home -- and I’m still doing trees.
